Origins of Territory Mapping:

The original idea for Territory Mapping was inspired by what Anthony Willoughby learnt from his conversations with Joseph Nombri, a Papua New Guinean tribal chief, who told Anthony that the most important ‘thing’ in his life was his ‘Territory’. Anthony has been featured widely in thought –leadership periodicals and was featured in The Independent newspaper’s “ How to be a Genius” series.
Anthony surmised that many corporate employees might be confused tribes people who had none clarity of their ‘territory’ that many indigenous tribes people still enjoyed. Based on this belief he has been developing Territory Mapping over the last six years and the programmes have now been attended by more that 4,000 participants on five continents. |

An ideal low risk way for an organization to explore the potential for Territory Mapping is our One Day Territory Mapping Workshop ( Introduction )
Goals:
This will provide an organization with clarity of the board perception of:
- Where they perceive their current and future customers to be on their Territory Map and the actions required to ‘ring fence’ the key customers.
- The issues, opportunities and barriers and critical internal and external battles that need to be fought and won.
- What the company is best at/proudest of and needs to do better.
The design and facilitation of the programmes will be adapted depending on the participants attending and the desired outcomes. These programmes are excellent for senior executives, intact teams or cross functional groups.
The Territory Mapping Outcomes:
a) Building mutual respect and trust between members of the team.
b) Strengthening the team in terms of clarity and alignment behind your vision for the group.
c) Gaining focus on common issues, opportunities and priorities which need to be worked on..
The Territory Mapping workshop can also assist a team:
- Decide how the will restructure so that they can work more productively together.
- Ensure clarity, focus and alignment behind a new organisation or project and its new mandate and purpose.
- Understand the new way of working with the rest of the business, (for example not just monitoring, but also advising and educating).
Given the nature of these issues, generally the challenges are less around rethinking basic concepts, and more around helping the team move to a new way of working both internally and with the rest of the business.
